Dressy casual.
It’s a garden event. Choose an outfit for hot weather.
Women, a dress or pants and blouse would work. Lighter colors may be cooler than darker colors. The event is held on a lawn, so consider shoes that won’t sink as the ground is soft. Sandals or flats are better than heels.
Men, chinos and shirt would work - jacket and tie not necessary but up to you. -

What to pack
Wedding attire, see FAQ #1
Bring cool, comfortable, breathable fabrics
Swimwear, sunscreen, sunglasses, and a wide-brimmed hat
Sturdy walking shoes and sandals or flip flops
A light-weight plastic poncho, rain jacket, or umbrella. An umbrella can also be used on sunny days, in lieu of a hat.
Eye mask, ear plugs, and melatonin for the flight. Consider downloading the Timeshifter app to help with jetlag.
Credit and debit cards are widely accepted, and ATM machines are easy to find, so you don’t need to bring all your required cash. We recommend still bringing some home country cash for emergency backup. E.g. $200 - $300 or whatever you feel comfortable with. Currency exchange places are easy to find.
Note: CBD oil is illegal in Indonesia.

To Denpasar Airport, Bali
You will fly into Bali Ngurah Rai International Airport, also known as Denpasar International Airport (DPS).
From Australia, Jetstar or Batik Air tend to be cheaper than Qantas or Virgin Australia.
From Singapore, AirAsia, Scoot, and Jetstar tend to have the cheapest options.
From North America, common routes often connect through Japan or Taiwan.
Pro tip: If you don’t like the flight options you see into Bali (DPS) and want to explore other routes--which may cheaper or shorter--look for a flight to Jakarta (CGK), Singapore (SIN), Kuala Lumpur (KUL), or Bangkok (BKK), and then take a budget carrier.
Be sure to give yourself ample time to change terminals or airports, as budget carriers often fly from a different terminal or airport.
Using miles from the U.S.: United miles can be the easiest to use, depending on where you’re departing from. American Airlines can be a good second choice and generally less miles than Delta.
From Denpasar Airport to Ubud
From the airport to Ubud, it’s a 1.5 hour drive, depending on traffic.

I can pay 400k. Ok?

*Whatsapp is free and works on any wifi, including airports whilst en route.Option 2 - Download the Grab app prior to your trip. See this article for info about booking with Grab.
Airport wifi is unreliable; for ease of booking, arrange an eSim prior to arriving, or get a SIM after Customs. Alternatively, the Grab lounge outside Arrivals has wifi.Option 3 - Find a driver at the airport. Take your time to negotiate with a few drivers, not the first ones in the line upon departure from Arrivals who are usually the most expensive. Airport to Ubud target price range IDR400k - 450k (US$25 - $30. AU$35 - $45).
Speak in IDR, not your home currency (even if they try to speak USD or AUD). They’re great negotiators and persistent. Keep it light and playful.

Yes, there are two options for getting a visa.
1. eVisa--applied for online, 7+ days before your arrival
2. VOA Visa on Arrival--applied for at the Bali DPS airport, upon arrival
I’ve included directions for both options below. The eVisa program will give faster entry upon arrival and one less thing to think about at the airport. That said, if the eVisa website is finicky for you, VOA is an easy option.
Regardless of the visa type...
* Have 6 months validity on your passport.
* A photo or print out of your return or onward flight from Bali.Option 1: eVisa
1. Gather the necessary documents:
* copy of passport page (jpeg)
* passport photo (jpeg)
* flight details, including a return or onward flight from Bali
2. Register/create your account.
a. Watch this video to create your account.
b. Go to the official government website.
c. Verify your account with the email link.
Tips for creating your account:
* When creating an account, add your mother’s full name, not only maiden name.
* If the website is not working:
- try a different browser-Firefox, Chrome, or Safari
- clear your cookies and cache
- try on a different day
- or skip to Step 3 (below), and apply as a ‘guest.’
3. Apply for your eVisa
a. Watch this video to apply for the 30-day visa.
b. Apply on the official government website.Cost: Rp500k ($35 USD, $50 AUD).
The Visa B1 is the standard visa for most tourists. It’s for a 30-stay and can be extended for an additional 30 days.After applying for the eVisa, you’ll typically receive it in your email within 72 hours.
4. Download (or print) your eVisa to show Immigration upon arrival.Option 2: VOA Visa on Arrival
If eVisa website is finicky for you, a Visa on Arrival is available at the Bali DPS airport. You’ll pay $50 AUD/$35 USD, before passing through immigration. Bring cash (EUR, GBP, AUD, USD, SGD, IDR), in case there is any issue with airside ATM or credit cards machines.

WhatsApp
Whatsapp is used extensively by foreigners and locals alike in Bali. If you don’t already have the Whatsapp app, please download and set up.SIM card
Consider getting an eSim prior to arriving in Bali to have internet immediately upon arrival and save time buying a local sim card in Bali. You’ll likely only need internet data, not phone credit, as most people in Bali use Whatsapp for text and calls, which runs off internet data. Amy uses the JetPac eSim. If you choose it also, use this referral link, and we both get a little credit.
Alternatively, if you have an unlocked phone, you can buy a physical SIM at the airport (see map) or at many shops in town. The airport has physical SIM cards and eSIMs (Smartfren).Ride-Share Apps
Rideshare apps are convenient and great value and used extensively in Bali. Download the GoJek or Grab app. Both services allow you to reserve a car or scooter driver, or have food delivered.Booking a day trip
If you're planning to do a more extensive day trip with multiple stops, it could be more convenient to pre-book a driver over WhatsApp. The cost is usually around 600-800k, depending on distance from Ubud and length of the day trip.Here are a list of drivers:
* Wayan Canteng: +62 877 6215 2012
* Kadek +62 815 5822 0108
* Made Sudaryana +62 852 3712 8748
* Made Astawa +62 812 3960 3177
* Made Lotunduh +62 812 3985 021
* Suka +62 812 3606 8705Scooter rental
Scooter rentals - the ones you ride yourself - are easy to find on the street. Make sure to try out the helmet and test drive the scooter. Check the brakes, tires, blinkers, lights, quality of the helmet, etc.
Before renting a bike or venturing into traffic, make sure you feel comfortable driving your scooter.
It's best to do some practice sessions on a quiet road. I recommend selecting a local driver and shadowing their movements through traffic. This will give you a sense of how to move with the flow of traffic and navigate the roads.
Here's an article with some more tips.
Varios and Scoopys are smaller scooters, and usually run around 80k ($5 USD), daily rate. Larger scooters (NMAX or PCX) are about 120-150k/day.
Darma Putra rental tends to be a bit more expensive than average prices (listed above), but they are a professional service with a large number of bikes.
WA for Putu @ Darma Putra +62-822-3636-2639Money
USD/AUD
* I like to travel with $200-300, just in case.
* No need to exchange money before your trip, as ATMs are readily available (and money changers too if needed).ATM
* You'll need some local currency cash for smaller vendors who don’t take credit card. E.g. Taxi drivers, local restaurants, etc.
* When withdrawing money, always select the amount ‘Without conversion’ for a better exchange rate.
* Unlike ‘dip once’ style ATMs you may be used to, Bali ATMs swallow your card, give you the money, and then release your card. . So… REMEMBER to retrieve your card from the machine after the transaction is complete. Consider doing a 3 count as standard practice: 1. Cash. 2. Card. 3. Receipt.Credit Cards
* Credit cards (Visa & Mastercard) are widely accepted in hotels and larger restaurants.
* Some restaurants will pass on a 3% charge for using a credit card, and will usually inform you prior to swiping/tapping.
* When asked which currency you’d prefer for the charge, choose the local currency for the best rate (same with ATMs).Laundry
It's easy to find a laundry shop to drop off your laundry. Usually, it will be available 24-36 hours later, and neatly pressed, around 25,000 IDR per kilo.Voltage
230 voltage (vs. 120 USA).
* Laptops and phones are designed to be travel friendly, so you don't need a voltage converter.
* Many hotels can supply an iron, hair dryer, and plug converter upon request.
* Unless specified, most hair dryers and flat irons are only designed for your home-country’s voltage.
* The plug type in Indonesia is two round pins (type C or F). It's easy and cheap to buy a plug converter in Bali.
